Professional Caregivers and Grief Care: Practicing What We Preach!
Speaker: Rodney Bolejack, D.Min / American Hospice
We know what to tell others about grief, but sometimes its tough to apply those things to our own lives. In the world of caregiving, professionals often develop special relationships with their clients. Those relationships occur at many different levels. Whenever there is a death or a sense of loss associated with a client, the professional may experience a grief that also occurs at many different levels. Often, this goes unrecognized. This presentation will identify some of the many ways a care-provider may experience gfrief stemming from the nature of the profession, encourage an embracing of our humanity, and suggest ways professionals may follow a path of healthy grieving for him/herself. By tending to our own grief experiences, we will be more capable of assisting clients in their grief.
